all saints day: 'beatitude'

Luke 6:20-31 (Matthew 5:3-12)

· music,lectionary,singer-songwriter

Some bonus music for the Feast of All Saints today! The lectionary gospel for the day is Luke's version of the Beatitudes, so I figured it would be good to preview a song from my upcoming EP, entitled "Beatitude!" What I love best about Luke's Beatitudes is that they switch Matthew's "blessed are those" for "blessed are YOU" - direct address to all the poor and sick and lost who have gathered to hear the Good News.

As you listen, I hope that you will remember your own blessedness, even in the midst of doubt: you are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses who are blessing you, right this minute, and you are a Child of a God whose blessing can never be taken away.

If you'd like to support me in making music like this, my GoFundMe for this latest recording project is here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/songs-of-the-spirit-vol-2. Or, as always, there's my Patreon link under the Support Us tab... ;)

Blessin's, --Tom

BEATITUDE

Blessed are you when you mourn for the millions

Blessed are you when you’re trembling with fear

Blessed are you when you can’t see the future

Blessed are you, you are blessed in your tears

BRIDGE

Blessed are you when you walk in the Kingdom

Blessed are you when you stumble and fall

Blessed are you when you’re hurt and you’re broken

Blessed are you when you still pursue the Call—

VERSE

Blessed are you who are hungry for justice

Blessed are you who are thirsty for peace

Blessed are you who are yearning for wholeness

Blessed are you who are praying for release

BRIDGE

Blessed are when you’re moved to take action

Blessed are you when you’re quiet and still

Blessed are you when you’re tired and you’re empty

Blessed are you in that day when you shall be filled—

VERSE Blessed are you by the people who love you

Blessed are you by the sun and the rain

Blessed are you by the depth of your feeling

Blessed are you in joy—in hope—in pain

BRIDGE

Blessed are you when you’re taxed beyond reason

Blessed are you when you’re scared and alone

Blessed are you when you’re lost in the darkness

Blessed are you who are lost, you shall find your way Home—

Blessed are you when your eyes are open

Blessed are you when you’re filled with the Light

Blessed are you when you can see what really matters

Blessed are you when your Heart is open wide
